Useful English

Some common words in Japanese that you can use everyday in English.

感動しました:I was touched / I was moved /  I was impressed.

I was touched means that your feelings were touched, or your heart was touched.  For example:  I was touched by President Obama’s speech.

I was moved means that your feelings were moved, or changed.  I was moved to tears by that movie.  So my normal feeling was moved to feeling sad and crying because of that movie.

When Japan won the gold medal in the Olympics, I was impressed.

残念:That’s too bad / that’s a shame / that’s regrettable.

For example:
A: I went to the park for a picnic yesterday but it started raining.
B: That’s too bad.  What did you do?
A:  I came back home.
