It is a common tradition in Japan to do a big cleaning at the end of the year(大掃除). In America we have a tradition to do a big cleaning after winter ends and spring begins. We call it “Spring Cleaning”.
So lets review some common cleaning nouns and verbs.
In this picture you can see some common cleaning items.
The top left picture is a squeegee. You use it to clean a window. The verb is also “squeegee”. For example
I squeegeed the windows with a squeegee.
The top right picture is a broom. The verb is “sweep”. For example,
I swept the kitchen floor with a broom.
The bottom picture is a mop, bucket, and a warning sign. The verb is also “mop”. For example,
The store employee mopped the floors. Because the floors were still wet and slippery, he put a warning sign on the ground.
