Dialogue from Part 1 of Garage Residing

Residing Project Part 1

Since I have had a little extra time on my hands, I decided to start a project I have wanted to do for a while.  There is an old garage next to our house on Noko that I have wanted to reside.  The garage was built by my wife’s grandfather. The siding on the garage has slowly rusted away over the years and there are many holes and openings everywhere.   My first step was to pull off the old rusty siding.  The siding that is on the garage is a metal sheet called “tin”.  The tin isn’t flat, it has a wavy pattern.

After pulling off the old siding I discovered that I have many problems to fix before I can reside the garage.  The biggest pain in my neck problem is that there are many posts and boards that have termite damage.  Or as Japanese call them “white ant” damage.  The damn termites went to town on this old wood.  So, I had to buy some new posts and boards from the local hardware store.  Then I took out the old damaged posts and installed the new ones.  I also beefed up the building supports to protect the garage from the next typhoon that comes.  I still have a little ways to go before I am finished.  I will post the second half in another video.
